a tree grows at an art festival ....

Earlier this month we directed a children’s community art project during ArtFest Fort Myers. We first sculpted a 7 foot bare tree with no leaves.

During the two day festival, we taught children how to sculpt leaves with masking tape, which they colored with markers and signed their names.

We were incredibly honored that the children then gave their hand made pieces of art to add to the tree.

All weekend long the tree grew it’s leaves for all to see.

We now have the tree back at our studio, where we will finish it by applying layers of glue over the branches, to permanently secure the leaves to the tree, and paint the trunk and branches. When we finish it, we hope to have it on display and various locations in the area. We’ll be sure to keep everyone informed of its whereabouts.

We’d like to thank ArtFest Fort Myers for inviting us to head this project, and the Lee County Alliance for the Arts for helping to make it happen.

an article that makes us smile...

A new article, titled “Making Oddity and Enchantment”, appears in the September – October issue of Gulf & Main magazine, that describes a bit of our history and process of the art we create together. We’re pretty proud of it. If you have a minute to read it, click on the images to to enlarge them.

Dinosaurs That Need Empowerment

Duals: A Member Exhibition is currently showing at DAAS CO-OP Art Gallery & Gifts. We created new art especially for it.

The dinos we made seemed a little scared and timid, so we gave them some masks to make them feel empowered. The masks can be removed, and even hung on a wall.

From images of these little guys, we made an illustrative photomontage in the form of a diptych, especially for the Duals show. It will be up through August 6th.

Kings and Queens and Things Unseen

a new collection of sculpted art with an imaginative storybook spirit
at Arts for ACT Gallery, 2265 First St, Ft Myers FL 33901

Happy to announce that Ocasiocasa will be occupying the 'white room' at Arts for ACT for the month of February! We've been been working hard to finish up all the pieces for this show, most of which have never been seen before. We are so excited.

a leaf lesson...

A quick view on sculpting a leaf with bits of recycled wire and masking tape. We're teaching a class Saturday, July 11th at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers FL.

sculpting a storybook...

For a very long time, I've been imagining illustrating a story with our artwork.
With no particular story in mind, it remained a dream.
We've never been closer to that idea coming to realization, however, than right now.
A short while ago, Jeff and I began tossing a made-up tale back and forth while relaxing on the back porch one Sunday afternoon with our cat. We liked the story. It made us laugh.

Sculpting the characters began almost immediately. They are simply a collection of townsfolk ---like any good story has.

When it came time to paint, I wanted to try something different, and put some mulberry paper, that I had been saving, to use.

I printed images of trees and plants that I photographed and altered onto the paper, draped it over their cloaks, and covered with glue.

The buildings, for part of the scenery, have also been made.

While still a work in progress, it easy for us to picture it being completed.

There are still other elements in the story that we need to sculpt, and images from our own abstract and nature photography will also be used for illustrating.

We're looking forward to seeing what the end result will be and imagining that it will be something that will make us smile
